The Process Engineering Guild organizes events throughout the year, with some of the most notable being MallasAppro, held in the autumn, and Kirkkovenesoudut (rowing event) held during Wappu celebrations in the spring. Other annual events include the guild’s Christmas party, anniversary ball and the KotiMaanPitkä excursion.
In 2022, the guild celebrated its 60(+1) years with grand festivities, and the next major anniversary ball, the 65th, will take place in 2026.
Sports activities are also a part of the guild’s traditions, such as badminton and kyykkä tournaments. Relaxed movie nights and board game evenings are also hosted at the guild room. We strive to organize new and diverse events, so ideas and suggestions are always welcome!

KIRKKOVENESOUDUT
Kirkkovenesoudut (Church Boat Rowing Competition) is a traditional event organized by the Process Engineering Guild of the University of Oulu, marking the opening of the Oulu Teekkari Wappu celebrations. The Process Engineering Guild has organized this event since 1999. The idea is to compete in rowing races using church boats, with participants including university guilds and subject societies, as well as various companies.
The event is organized in collaboration with Oulun Kilpa-Veljet ry, who provide the boats. Representatives from Kilpa-Veljet guide participants into the boats and manage the competition’s timing. Approximately a week before the event, the ice conditions on the river are checked in cooperation with the representatives from Kilpa-Veljet, and a decision is made about whether the competition can proceed safely. If ice conditions make rowing unsafe, the event must be cancelled. Since 2013, an autumn rowing competition (Syyssoudut) has been held as an alternative if spring rowing is canceled due to ice conditions. The most recent Syyssoudut event took place in 2024, as the spring competition was replaced by a tug-of-war competition between subject societies due to unsuitable ice conditions.

MALLASAPPRO
MallasAppro, the most noble degree of them all, has entertained Teekkari crowds and other university students since 1993. The idea of Mapprot is to drink 0,33 l beers, ciders or long drinks (either alcoholic or alcohol-free) with a time limit. There are 4 different degrees one can complete:
Doctorate, men aim for 18 alcoholic draft beverages, women for 15, within six hours.
Laudatur, men aim for 15 beverages, women for 12, within five hours
Cum Laude, men aim for 12 beverages, women for 9, within four hours
Appro, men aim for 9 beverages, women for 6, within three hours
In addition to these four degrees, participants have the opportunity every five years to earn an Honorary Doctorate (kunniatohtori), provided they have previously completed the doctorate. The next opportunity to attempt this degree will be in 2028. The Honorary Doctorate requires men to drink 20 beverages and women to drink 18 beverages within five hours.
