Congratulations on your admission and welcome to study process engineering at the University of Oulu! You’ve made an excellent choice. We call first-year students freshmen/freshers (fuksit), and there’s plenty of fun activities organized just for them. For many, the freshman year is the most unforgettable part of their student years, so we highly encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, get to know your fellow freshmen, and enjoy the fun events we have in store for you.

Starting university studies is undoubtedly nerve-wrecking, but rest assured, it’s the same for all freshmen. Before the semester begins, an orientation

week schedule will be provided, detailing all lectures, info sessions, and important events for your first week. This means you do not have to worry about course registrations, timetables, or programs in advance.

Before orientation week starts, you’ll be placed in a small group led by your personal tutor (tuutori). Their role is to guide you through the start of your university studies, provide you with support and be available for any questions. You’ll also get to know the guild’s freshman representative and freshman assistant (fuksikätyri), both who will be there to support you alongside your tutor. They’ll organize various freshman events, such as an evening in Kiikeli (a park), the Freshers Info Session, the Freshman Orienteering and more.

Members of the Process Engineering Guild, also called proselaiset, can be recognized by their slightly tattered “pure white” overalls and the teekkari cap with an arrow-shaped cockade in the front. The Process Engineering Guild organizes a variety of events, sports activities, and other shared activities for its members. We are always thrilled to welcome new students into the guild’s activities!

Once your studies begin, feel free to drop by our guild room for a cup of coffee and to get to know your fellow proselaiset. Make the most of your time as a student!
